Whether your eyelashes struggle to hold a curl or you simply need a smudge-proof formula, it’s best to look for waterproof or water-resistant mascara formulas. While both serve as a water repellant and will prevent black ink from streaming down your face, there are some differences to consider when picking out your everyday mascara. To help you decide if a waterproof or water-resistant formula is right for your lashes, we spoke with celebrity makeup artist Nina Soriano.
Choose the Right Brush
Most manufacturers offer several types of mascara. However, not many people know that the formula of those products is pretty much the same. What is different is the brush design and this is the very thing you want to consider while choosing a mascara. For example, if you want to curl your lashes a little bit, you will most likely enjoy using a curled brush. In case your lashes are already curled, a straight brush will work for you. In addition to that, you want to choose a brush according to your lashes type. In particular, it’s better to use a bigger brush for long and thick lashes. At the same time, smaller brushes will perfectly work for short eyelashes. So consider your lashes type and choose the right brush for them.
Purchase a Decent Brand
Yes, makeup is quite expensive and sometimes you want to save on it but, obviously, it’s not a good idea. The thing is cheap makeup, if it is a fake brand, is uncertified, which means that before the production and retailing nobody checks whether these products are safe to use. So it goes without saying that using these products is actually dangerous, especially around your eyes.
After all, buying a mascara that costs just 10 bucks more is going to be cheaper than paying hospital bills you might end up with after a severe allergic reaction. Therefore, choose a reputable brand and buy mascara as well as any other makeup only in pharmacies or certified stores.
Consider the Season
When it’s 90 degrees and you are sweating, even the most expensive mascara will let you down, unless it’s waterproof. This is exactly why you want to consider the season before purchasing a mascara. As we have already mentioned above, it’s better to use waterproof mascara in summer and a regular one in colder seasons.
At the same time, you should know that waterproof mascara is very hard to wash away even if you use makeup remover. Therefore, not to rub your eyes too much as well as avoid mechanically damaging your lashes while removing your makeup, it’s better not to use waterproof mascara too often.
